Types of Fly Problems
Cluster Flies
These often appear as slow-moving house flies, but unlike the house fly, which is most active in summer, cluster flies are more noticeable during the winter months. They seek warmth and shelter inside walls and attics, but unlike other types of flies, they do not breed inside your home; they are parasitic to earth worms and only get into human dwellings for warmth.
Fruit Flies
If you’ve ever left fruit out for too long, you’ve probably encountered these tiny invaders. All flies are sugar fiends, but these guys take it to the next level; they breed rapidly in overripe produce, drains, and garbage disposals, making them hard to eliminate without professional help.
Blow Flies
Recognizable by their metallic green or blue bodies, blow flies are often found near decaying organic matter. They’re not just unpleasant to have around—they can also signal a larger sanitation issue.
Drain Flies
These tiny flies could be mistaken for fruit flies; both species are small and thrive in moist, organic buildup inside drains, pipes, and garbage disposals. Drain flies are fuzzier, though, so don’t rule them out if you see a bunch of small flies in your kitchen or bathroom.
House Flies
These familiar pests are drawn to food, garbage, and animal waste. They reproduce quickly and, because they spend so much time in trash and fecal matter, can spread disease on any surface they come into contact with.
